La Graine et le Mulet - Secret of the Grain - 2007 French film directed by Abdellatif Kechiche.  This tragicomic epic of Arab immigrant life in a French port town won a 2008 César award for best film!!!  Set in the rustic port of Sete, this film follows Slimane, whose growing dissatisfaction with the shipyard job he has had for the last 35 years prompts him to try to open his own restaurant.  His dream seems out of reach, but his contagious conviction and persistence work their way into the hearts of his loyal but dispersed family: the four children from his first marriage, his ex-wife, current girlfriend and her bright, outspoken daugher, Rym. Stars Hafsia Herzi, Habib Boufares, Farida Benkhetache and Abdelhamid Aktouche. Rated G, 154 minutes with optional English subtitles. Mainly in French, with some Arabic and Russian.
