Most of the courses in the Spoken Language Series were prepared by under the aegis of the American Council of Learned Societies and the Linguistic Society of America. The course books are self-instructional and the cassettes are keyed to the material. This course introduces spoken and written Urdu in the Dihlavi dialect. Much of the material appears in English-like transcription rather than the traditional Arabic script.Cassettes are recorded by native speakers and cover conversations, pronunciation exercises and True-False tests. Grammatical explanations are given for the language content already learned.
